SUMMARY:Connected Cities Summit
DESCRIPTION:Join us for historic gathering of leaders shaping the future of our cities and communities to prioritize human connection. \nFor the last 60 years\, we have optimized our cities and culture for individualism and commerce. The result is a country where most people are disconnected and divided. But that is starting to change. Across the country\, civic innovators—organizers\, community builders\, and cross-sector leaders—are building a new civic era\, redesigning our cities and communities around social connection. \nThe Connected Cities Summit is where we come together to map what communities are building and create a shared vision for how together we can support social connection and trust. \n\n\n\n\n\nExperience a two-day creative sprint: part design studio\, part civic gathering\, part dinner table. \nThe Connected Cities Summit is designed to co-author a shared blueprint that we can all bring back to our communities to inform and inspire our work for the next decade. It offers: \n\nShared vision and narrative to guide our field.\nVivid description of the key infrastructure needed.\nPractical pathways for collaboration.

SUMMARY:Responsible Tech Summit: Embedding Accountability in the AI Era
DESCRIPTION:On October 29\, All Tech Is Human will convene the Responsible Tech Summit at The New York Times Center in Manhattan\, bringing together leaders from across the Responsible Tech ecosystem for a day of dialogue\, collaboration\, and action. The summit will serve as the premier gathering for the global Responsible Tech movement\, connecting voices from civil society\, research\, government\, industry\, academia\, and philanthropy who are working to ensure technology advances in ways that align with the public interest. \nAt a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping society\, the conversation is shifting from broad principles to real-world accountability. The 2026 summit will center around the theme “From Principles to Power: Embedding Accountability in the AI Era.” For years\, the Responsible Tech field has been guided by ethical frameworks\, voluntary commitments\, and emerging standards. Today\, the challenge is clear: how do we translate those ideas into systems of governance\, oversight\, and design that ensure innovation does not come at the expense of safety\, rights\, or trust? \nThe Responsible Tech Summit is designed as a highly curated convening for 375 leaders that helps align and shape the direction of the movement. Participants will include global governance leaders\, AI researchers\, industry practitioners\, policy experts\, civil society advocates\, and philanthropic leaders who are building the infrastructure of accountability for the digital age. Through keynotes\, panels\, and conversations\, attendees will explore topics such as accountability by design\, platform oversight\, youth online safety\, the Responsible Tech economy\, and the evolving global regulatory landscape. \nThis will be the first Responsible Tech Summit that will be livestreamed\, as we are building partnerships to amplify the stage activities to tens of thousands of individuals across the globe. This is a cross-sector gathering bringing the entire ecosystem together. \nBuilding on previous summits that have featured leading thinkers such as Sherry Turkle\, Tim Wu\, Frances Haugen\, Justin Hendrix\, Amba Kak\, Rob Reich\, Nora Benavidez\, Nina Jankowicz\, Yael Eisenstat\, Jameel Jaffer\, Melissa Fleming\, Katie Harbath\, and Nabiha Syed\, the 2026 gathering will continue to elevate the voices shaping the future of technology governance. Confirmed speakers include leaders such as Rumman Chowdhury\, Cathy O’Neil\, Eli Pariser\, Camille François\, Sinead Bovell\, Renée Cummings\, Joshua Elder\, Anya Schiffrin\, Julie Cordua\, Kathy Pham\, Alex Bores\, Britta Holmberg\, Amanda Craig\, Alexis Wales\, Shreya Singh Hernández\, Beth Goldberg\, and more to be announced in the coming weeks. \nUltimately\, the Responsible Tech Summit is about more than conversation. It is about building alliances\, strengthening the ecosystem\, and translating shared values into meaningful change. By bringing together stakeholders across sectors\, All Tech Is Human aims to catalyze the next phase of the Responsible Tech movement and help chart a path toward a technology future that better serves humanity. \nThe Responsible Tech Summit is a place where: \n\n\npolicy ideas emerge \n\n\ncoalitions form \n\n\nfunding conversations happen \n\n\nthe ecosystem connects

SUMMARY:MISI Summit: The Need for Roots in a Digital Society
DESCRIPTION:The philosopher Simone Weil observed that “uprootedness is by far the most dangerous disease of human societies because it propagates itself.” Today\, we are regularly reminded\, in news and surveys\, of the disconnection\, loneliness\, distrust and polarization corroding to modern life. Too many feel ungrounded\, untethered: to our peers\, our communities\, the ecologies that sustain us\, even to our own faculties of attention. \nThe Center for Media Innovation & Social Impact’s 2026 Summit asks: In a twenty-first century digital society\, what does it mean to be rooted? In the midst of jarring technological change — and overlapping crises of climate\, politics\, and attention — how do we maintain ties to what is essential to human flourishing? As thinkers and civic leaders\, how do we keep human needs at the forefront as our society grapples with emerging technologies? \nThe summit will gather scholars\, journalists\, scientists\, community leaders\, influencers\, technologists\, and others to reckon with these growing challenges. We will grapple with questions\, such as: What should we demand from new technology\, and how do we shift public attitudes from passive acceptance to active engagement — so that the public helps to shape the world being built by new digital technologies? \nPanels and workshops will explore the problem of uprootedness related to three intersecting areas: community\, ecology and attention; and practical questions about how digital tools can foster — rather than stunt — genuine rootedness. Ecologists and foresters will show how they use digital tools to share their love of the living world and connect to likeminded communities; municipal leaders will explain how they are bridging digital divides; and scientists and engineers will explore how best to pierce the digital distortions to communicate their findings with a skeptical public. \nThe question is not whether we need roots\, but how\, in our current conditions\, we grow them. Please join us in this conversation about how we do that. \nRegistration is requested and free of cost: https://sites.bu.edu/misi/2026/07/30/misi-summit-2026-the-need-for-roots-in-a-digital-society/
