Richmond, VA
Caitlyn Berry is an occupational therapist (OT) and nonprofit leader rooted in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. As Director of Government Relations at Sportable, she builds public partnerships to expand access for individuals with disabilities to engage in adaptive sports, recreation, and wellness programs. People with disabilities are underserved in many areas of life and are more likely to experience inactivity, loneliness, and isolation. Since 2005, Sportable has provided programmatic solutions to these challenges by empowering people with disabilities to get active and find community. Under Caitlyn’s leadership, Sportable has recently expanded its offerings to include new wellness programs called the Sportable Wellness Initiatives or “WINS” which were recently recognized by the Administration for Community Living as a Social Engagement Innovation and added to their national evidence-based hub. As an OT, Caitlyn sees the potential in every person to live a full and vibrant life when barriers are removed and opportunities are created. She has led more than 100 community trainings and presentations to educate others on disability etiquette, inclusion, and creating accessible programs. Personally, Caitlyn finds deep social connection through Richmond’s thriving running community. She serves as a volunteer coach for the Richmond marathon training team and regularly joins local running groups connecting with people of all ages, paces, and backgrounds. She’s also a passionate advocate for building inclusive active infrastructure through Richmond’s Bike Walk RVA initiative, recognizing that sidewalks, trails, and shared-use paths are powerful tools for connecting neighbors and creating a stronger sense of community.
