Maree Hampton, M.Ed., CHES, founder of Digital Wellbeing Solutions, provides Digital Wellbeing training for youth-facing professionals who are concerned about the impact that digital media use (i.e., social media, video gaming) has on the mental health and wellbeing of adolescents. She has presented at national and statewide conferences and conducted training for hundreds of educators, public health, and mental health professionals. Maree is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and Digital Wellness Educator. She is a founding member of the Screen Time Action Network’s national Online Harm Prevention workgroup through the nonprofit Fairplay. Maree serves on the University of Minnesota’s Summer Institute in Adolescent Health planning committee, hosting a 3-day Institute for youth-serving professionals. The 2025 theme, “Shaping Healthy Communities, Unleashing the Power of Youth,” emphasizes community connection for well-being.
The former U.S. Surgeon General called national attention to social media’s role in the youth mental health crisis in an advisory in May 2023. That same year, he released “The Loneliness and Isolation Epidemic in America,” citing technology as contributing to loneliness. Maree believes we can all promote healthy technology use and prevent harm caused by overuse and misuse. At the heart of Maree’s work is promoting in-person social connections and equipping adults to have meaningful conversations with adolescents.
Previous positions include Co-founder and Co-Executive Director of LiveMore ScreenLess, Program Evaluation Consultant for the YMCA’s Equity Innovation Center, Director of Health Promotion at the University of Minnesota’s Boynton Health Service, and faculty of Dine College (Navajo Community College) in Arizona.
