Professor, School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Karen Morris (PhD Anthropology, Stanford University) is a Professor in the Department of Visual & Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and Co-Founder of the LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project. She is interested in experimental, community-based collaborative research, pedagogy, and social justice work. Founded in 2019, the Chicago-based LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project brings together cohorts of racially, socioeconomically, and gender diverse LGBTQ+ younger (19-30 years old) and older adults (60-86 years old) for year-long series of bi-weekly themed dialogues, shared meals, storytelling, and collaborative art-making. Over time, the project has grown into a hybrid community/pedagogy/research partnership between a multi-disciplinary team of four LGBTQ+ professors at three institutions of higher education (SAIC, University of Illinois Chicago, University of Chicago), the Midwest’s largest LGBTQ+ community center, and over 160 LGBTQ+ Chicago residents.
